To Memorialize a New York City Firefighter

Being a survivor of the WTC, I wanted to memorialize a New York City Firefighter.  I will forever carry his name in my heart.

For Two Friends lost on 9/11

I have lost two friends, one of which was a client of mine and were close and spoke on the phone at length on various subjects, and the other, my girlfriend lost a great friend in the WTC tragedy.  In addition to losing her friend, I almost lost my girlfriend to boot.  She was at the trade center on the corner of church and vessey and was late to work on the 36th floor of trade center tower 2.  When she emerged from the subway stop, the second plane hit when she was on the cell phone with me.  Me of course was franticly worrying abut her safety at the time.  Long story short, she is ok now.

For the over 300 Members of the FDNY

I am good friends with a firefighter.  I know the sacrifices that are made on a daily basis by these men and women.  On 9/11/01, the ultimate sacrifice was made by over 300 members of the FDNY.  I choose the name Joseph Hunter because he is still missing and he was my age.

For My Dad to Remember General Maude

My Dad is a disabled veteran and in need of a lung transplant.  He was friends with General Timothy Maude when he was Colonel Maude while stationed in Germany.  My father had been corresponding with General Maud via email and was expecting a visit from General Maude last November.  General Maude was killed in the Pentagon on Sept. 11th, and I thought a Memorial Bracelet for my Dad with General Maud's name on it would be a wonderful gift to remember him by.

I have two POW MIA bracelets that were give to me by my father, so when I saw there were ones for the WTC I was very pleased.  My husband is a firefighter/paramedic here where we live in MIchigan, and I have always supported what he does day in and day out.  I'm very honored to be the wife of Lt. For Firefighter Sean P. Tallon

I ordered a bracelet with the name Sean P. Tallon, a firefighter who died at the WTC.  I live in Battery Park City, just across West St. from the WTC, and Sean was a member of Latter 10, who shared space in our local firehouse with Engine 10.  In the short month that I lived in BPC prior to the attacks, I became acquainted with Sean on my daily walks past his firehouse to the WTC to get my subway uptown to school.  I was so shocked to see his picture among the missing firemen in the NY Times that week, and I have been determined to keep his memory alive.  This bracelet is thus fare the best way I can image of doing so.  Thank you for doing this...it means so much to literally be able to keep Sean's memory with me all day long.

For One of the Greatest Heroes Lt. Robert Regan

I bought the bracelet because my cousin Lt. Robert Regan of Ladder 118 FDNY died in the WTC Tragedy and I want everyone to know that I knew one of the Greatest Heros of all time.  Although I am so sad I am so proud of him.  I want to support Bobby and My cousins Donna, Caitlin, and Brendan.  I hope that wearing my bracelet will give me strength in the times I might need it in the future.  I also want to support the Orphans Fund in any way possible.

To Keep the Memory of Eddie Oliver Alive

My family lost a wonderful young man on 9/11.  (His brother is married to my sister) Eddie Oliver left behind a young wife and a daughter 2 years and a son 4 months old.  As a mater of fact, they had just christened their son 2 days before the tragedy.  His family and mine are truly heartbroken from the loss, but having these bracelets somehow keeps his memory alive.

My boyfriend chose a bracelet that is for the plane that crashed in PA so that he would not forget that it wasn't just people in New York who died.  I chose mine "United We Stand" to remind me that as an American I can overcome any challenge I face & I have friends and family that will help me.

To Teach My Students about Service and Sacrifice

I wear a POW/MIA bracelet for a Navy pilot lost over North Vietnam that I got while I was in the service.  My students always ask about it, and when I discovered your site after 9/11, I let them know about the opportunity and they chose to sign up if they wanted a bracelet.  Some chose non name bracelets, many selected the names of firefighters from FDNY unit that we "adopted" and raised money for their fallen members fund.  I tied it to several lessons about service, sacrifice and serving a cause.

For My Son Paul J. Battaglia Killed on 9/11

My 22 y/o son Paul J. Battaglia was killed on 9/11.  The bracelets are for myself and his fiancee.  Unfortunately he never got a chance to marry and have children.  He loved his job in the twin towers and loved his life so much.  When I was in H.S. I wore a POW bracelet.  Now I'll wear one for my son.

For the Heroic Passengers of Flight 93 who Saved my Life

I live in Pennsylvania.  Which kind of was right between the events of September 11, 2001.  To the north of us, the towers were being attached.  To the south of us, the Pentagon was hit.  And what seemed to be right next door, when in distance it was probably 165 miles to the west of Lancaster County, the United Airlines flight 93 crashed after a very heroic attempt by several passengers to take the plane back from the terrorist.

To this day, I truly believe those heroic individuals of Flight 93 saved my life.  You see, I live within a five mile radius of the Three Mile Island Nuclear plant.  Many people here believe that the plane was directed to come to the Nuclear Plant to complete the final path of destruction from New York to Washington DC.  If indeed the plane had hit the towers, there would have been nothing to speak of from New York through Pennsylvania and down to Washington DC.  That is why I requested the bracelets from Flight 93 with Todd Beamer and Tom Burnett on them.  I, along with a lot of other thankful people, owe it to the true heroes of the day that were on the plane that crashed her in PA.  I am 36 years old and did not want to see my life, or anyones life come to an end that morning.  I will always remember the events of September 11, and I will always remember the people on Flight 93, that gave their lives so that I could continue living my life.  

The other bracelet I bought with the NYFD persons name on it is a gift to a young man I work with at Yellow Freight.  Ever since Sept. 11, he has traveled back and fourth from here to New York to assist in helping with the clean up of the towers.  He is a paramedic and stands ready to deal with people who may become ill or injured in the clean up.  I think he will really like the token of my appreciation for him giving so much of himself and his free time.

For Law Enforcement Families

I'm a Patrol Sergeant for the Calexico Police Department in Calexico, California and my wife is a Public Safety Dispatcher there too.  My wife and I, like everybody else were affected by this tragedy.  We like many people live in a Law Enforcement Family.  My wife was touched in both ways, being that she dispatches Police, Fire and EMS.  I will never for get this tragedy for the rest of my life and will live to be the best I can in Honor of my fallen Brothers.

To Remind Me That the Innocence is Gone

The reason I ordered these bracelets was because, even through I put our flag out each morning (and my husband brings it in when it gets dark) and wear an American flag pin every day, I wanted something more.  Something to remind me that this world is changing and the innocence is gone.  I wanted something to remind me that we are strong and hopefully something good will come of this terrible tragedy.  I want to remember those people and pray for their families.  I can only imagine their grief and pray that they know how much we all feel for them.  Hopefully more folks will wear them to show their support and love for each other and all Americans!

While I live in Baltimore now, I grew up just outside of NYC.  My childhood memories are of running around the city to see everything, going to the movies and eating at the wall of food (automat).  I still have family in NY and while we're all safe, we wanted to honor those who died.

Because I can Identify with the Children who Lost Parents on 9/11

I ordered a bracelet because the profit goes to the children.  Since I lost my Mom when I was seven and my Dad when I was fourteen, I can identify with the children.  It was a no brainer for me.  Also it was a way for us to show our support for our country.

I ordered a Memorial Bracelet because I am a pediatric nurse at a large children's hospital in Indianapolis and I wanted to show my support for all the innocent victims of the attacks, but to particularly remember all the children who lost their lives at the hands of a few sick, horrible people.

For the forty passengers- HEROES of Flight 93

I purchased four of the flight 93 bracelets for myself and three of my brother volunteer firefighters that took part in "operation clean sweep" at the flight 93 crash site.  First it felt good to try to help in our country's time of need, then when we got there it felt totally different, I felt anger, I felt pride, but most of all I felt commitment to do the best we could to identify as many of the forty passengers- HEROES that we could.  

Don't get me wrong, this wasn't an easy task, we ALL- 300 of us felt the pain that the whole country felt, but we were the ones that could be there and try to do our part in this terrible time of need.  So we went, and now we have our life time remembrance of our need to help.  Shall we lest forget our HEROES.

For 24 Year Old Volunteer Fire Fighter Welles Crowther

The name on my bracelet is Welles R. Crowther.  Wells was 24 years old.  Hew was a member of the Nyack Volunteer Fire Department's Empire Hook and Ladder CO. No. 1 of Upper Nyack, New York of which I am also a member. 

Wells was a securities trader working on the 107th floor/tower 2 of the World Trade Center.  After the first plane struck tower 1, Welles phoned his father's workplace to let him know that hew as okay and evacuating, but had to leave him a message.  He then phoned his mother's cell phone and left her the same message.  Shortly after this, tower 2 was struck by the second plane.  Wells has not been accounted for since.

I have been friends with the Crowther family for many years watching Welles grow from a boy to a young man.  At the request of the family, I had the honor of conducting the firematic portion of the memorial service held for Welles a few weeks latter.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Welles' family.
