I have worn my MIA Bracelet until it rotted off, then I got another until once again it rotted off. I then bought one for dress so Sgt Zutterman Jr. can get dressed up and go out. He has been with me for at least 3 years. He has been to England, Norway, Hawaii, Colorado and of course Kansas. I have just ordered a new bracelet and a dog tag this time. I hope that some day he can come home to rest.

It took me eleven years to gain the courage to order one for my friend that was killed in Iraq; It took ten years before I could muster the courage to return to his grave after I stood on his honor guard and buried him. I was left behind on their deployment, and that is something that haunts me to this day and will haunt me forever. I will never forget him, and now people will know that I haven't forgotten him as well.
ReplyDeleteI don't know how to post this as who my bracelet is for, so I put it here. Those in the know please feel free to put this into the next post.
ReplyDeleteThe bracelet that I have to SSG John B Ogburn III has been 11 years in coming, simply because it took me this long to gather up the courage to order it. I was the rear detatchment commander at the time he was killed, and I drove 16 hours round trip, and nearly non-stop, to come back to my duty station to be there. I was on the funeral detail and honor guard for him. I was unable to go back to where he was buried for 10 years it hurt so badly....until my buddy made me go and said "its time we do this" that I finally went back. I ordered my bracelet a little later on, and all of the member of our company are planning on visiting him and having a sip with him every Veteran's day from now on. I wouldn't have had the courage to do this had it not been for buddies telling me its time to do so....
I have had a bracelet of Joseph Zutterman for about 23 years. Always worn. It is a reminder of a sacrifice that can never go unnoticed.
